In 1981 when we first planted our asparagus, we had no idea where it would take us. At first we tried to sell the asparagus fresh to grocery stores. Most of the stores were already contracted with asparagus sources so we tried something else. Pickled Asparagus!

Since my wife Sharon had a background in canning we had pickled a few things but had never in our lives pickled asparagus. 3 years ago pickled asparagus was almost unheard of but we pickled it anyway.

Not long after we started making pickled asparagus we started doing retail shows and promoted our pickled asparagus to be used as a swizzle stick for Bloody Mary's. Lo and behold the idea hit us between the eyes like a sledgehammer. Let's make our own Bloody Mary Mix and include a pickled asparagus spear inside!
